Russell K. Bell, ChFC®

Advisor

Russell has specialized in retirement and estate planning for more than 20 years. He is a Registered Representative and an Investment Adviser Representative with Commonwealth Financial Network®.

He holds a degree in business from the University of Central England, Birmingham, England. He earned a Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designation from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Russell also received the fullest extent of education in investment management offered from the Institute of Investment Management and Research in London, England.

Industry registrations include FINRA Series 7 (General Securities Representative), NASAA Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law Registration), FINRA Series 24 (General Securities Principal) and NASAA Series 65 (Uniform Investment Advisors Law).

Russell lives with his wife in Glastonbury, Connecticut, where he enjoys most outdoor activities and volunteers for the Glastonbury Crew team.

James E. Tyrrell, CFP®, ChFC®

James is a founding member of Heritage Capital Advisors, LLC. James’ practice concentrates on wealth management, retirement, and estate planning.

With more than 30 years experience as an investment advisor, James is a consummate professional known for his competence and reliability. He approaches investment management with an eye toward consistency and discipline. He feels both are essential to protect against emotional and unpredictable market swings. James' money management philosophy reflects his firm belief in tax-efficient investment strategies. His primary goal is to minimize the toll of taxes and maximize financial gains. James endeavors to understand the entire picture via open dialogue with his clients, their tax accountants and/or attorneys. In his view, open conversations with these professionals coupled with advisory practices aimed at educating clients are the cornerstone of sound financial management.

He has a BS in finance from Western New England College in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. He received his Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designation from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He also holds a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in Denver, Colorado. His industry registrations include FINRA Series 7 (General Securities Representative), NASAA Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law Exam) and NASAA Series 65 (Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam), which are held through Commonwealth Financial Network®.

A Connecticut native, James and his wife, Dina, live in Bolton, Connecticut with their children, John and Gabriella. In his leisure time, James enjoys coaching youth sports, fly fishing, and alpine skiing.

Pete has provided advice and guidance to clients since 1985.  He approaches each client relationship both individually and holistically—it is rare to find two people with the same goals and resources. Much of his interaction with clients is educational, spanning the areas of investing, retirement planning, estate planning, and insurance.  Coordinating expert advice from his clients’ additional professionals in tax accounting, estate planning, and insurance, he creates a complete client-centric relationship. In addition to individuals, Pete also works with business owners to integrate employee and executive benefits with their personal planning. After 19 years working with several regional and national brokerage firms, Pete rejoined his friends and past partners at Heritage Capital Advisors in October 2018.

Pete earned a bachelor of science in finance from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, and an MBA in investment finance from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut.  He has attained the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification through the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in Washington, D.C.

He holds various industry registrations, including FINRA Series 7 (General Securities Representative), 9 & 10 (NYSE Branch Office Manager), and 24 (General Securities Principal); NASAA Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination) and 65 (Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination); and NFA Series 31 (Futures Managed Funds Examination). Pete is a Registered Representative and an Investment Adviser Representative with Commonwealth Financial Network®.

Pete has lived in the Hartford, Connecticut area his entire life and currently resides in Glastonbury with his wife, Teresa and their four children, Nicholas, Katharine, Gabrielle, and Madeline.  His hobbies include gardening, reading, cheering on the Red Sox and experiencing new wines with a local wine group.

Mark A Gantner, AAMS®

Advisor

As an advisor at Heritage Capital Advisors, Mark provides his clients with customized financial advice, investment management, and portfolio guidance.  He works closely with clients to build, implement, monitor, and update a plan that helps achieve their goals.  He coordinates with clients’ tax, legal, and insurance professionals for effective outcomes.

Mark takes time to explain complex subjects in plain language to help improve clients’ understanding of various topics, including retirement income needs, investment vehicles (stocks, bonds, open- and closed-end funds, ETFs, annuities), account types (SEP, ROTH, traditional and rollover IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s; and other employer plans), estate planning, gifting strategies, education funding, insurance needs and product attributes, tax-minimization opportunities, and solutions to short-term cash needs.

Mark understands that the transition from work to retirement takes special planning, and he works diligently to help his clients navigate this with confidence.

Mark joined Heritage Capital Advisors in October 2018 with more than 18 years of experience as a financial advisor, having worked at Wells Fargo Advisors and its predecessor companies—Wachovia Securities and AG Edwards & Sons—since 2000.  Mark spent 20 years with Grand Metropolitan PLC in various finance and financial management positions.  

Mark’s professional credentials include the Accredited Asset Management SpecialistSM (AAMS®) designation.  He holds FINRA Series 7 and 66 securities registrations and is licensed to represent insurance products in Connecticut and several other states.  Mark is a Registered Representative and an Investment Adviser Representative with Commonwealth Financial Network®.

Mark graduated from the University of Hartford in 1973 with a BS in accounting and earned an MS in management at Rensselaer Hartford in 1985.

Mark lives in Avon with his wife, Carol.  He enjoys snow skiing, gardening, traveling, dining in and out with friends, and spending time in Bournemouth, England.

Beth has worked as a registered office assistant for James Tyrrell’s advisory team since 2000.

She has a BS in business administration from Bryant College with a major in management.

To increase her knowledge of the industry and to assist Jim, Beth’s industry registrations include FINRA Series 7 (General Securities Representative), the FINRA Series 6 (Investment Company & Variable Contracts Products Representative), NASAA Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination), and NASAA Series 65 (Uniform Investment Advisor Law examination), which she holds as a registered staff member with Commonwealth Financial Network®. She is also a notary public.

Beth and her husband, Mark, live in Cromwell, Connecticut, with their children, Caitlyn and Michael.

Kelly Leahy

Manager, Client Services for Russell Bell

Kelly has worked part-time for Heritage Capital Advisors for the past five years. She provided administrative support to all advisor teams and worked on special projects. You may have seen her when visiting the office or even spoken with her over the phone.  She has now joined Team Bell as manager of client services, part-time.

Prior to joining Heritage Capital Advisors, Kelly has had several years of experience in a variety of fields including marketing and business administration.  She has strong communication, customer service, and administrative skills along with extensive office experience. She graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and is a notary public.

Kelly and her husband, Ryan, live in Newington, Connecticut, with their children: Alyson, Colin, and Brooklyn. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, biking, and going for walks.

Paula Fischer

Outside Consultant

Paula is no stranger to the partners of Heritage Capital Advisors. During the ‘90s, Paula joined the original Heritage Financial Associates as a retirement planning specialist. As a result of her strong public relations skills and her passion for sports, Paula was offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the NHL to serve as business development manager for the Hartford Whalers Hockey Club (now known as the Carolina Hurricanes), followed by another incredible offer to join the PGA Tour as director of membership sales and marketing for the Tournament Players Club (TPC) at River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. She has extensive real estate lending experience, which she gained as credit manager for Gibraltar Savings & Loan out of Richmond, Virginia, and is a founder of pfSolutions, LLC, a marketing/public relations consulting practice specializing in client development and retirement strategies for business owners. In addition, she satisfies her love for golf by serving as director of membership at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington, Connecticut.

Paula graduated as valedictorian of her high school class and magna cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in psychology and communication. Her love for animals and passion for animal welfare has her serving as a volunteer for Our Companions Domestic Animal Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization leading the movement to end the unnecessary euthanasia of pets in Connecticut.
